Day 12 - February 11

This morning Paul woke up early and headed to the restaurant for a couple of work meetings. Kiefer and I slept in a bit, and then I jumped on a work call for a short time.

After that, I went downstairs to make Kiefer breakfast. Just as I finished whipping up his eggs and milk for some breaky, the power went out in the entire condo. No worries, we have a gas stove… EXCEPT the spark is electrical, and we had no matches or lighters. 🤦‍♀️

So off we went to the restaurant to see if we could grab some food — only to discover they don’t open until noon. Paul finished up his meetings, and then we went back to the condo to quickly pack before heading to Panama City… or almost.

We’re staying at the Hilton for two nights to check out some condos and see if it’s something we might consider purchasing.

On the way into town, we found a really cool burger place with over 20 different burgers on the menu. I went with a salad and it was SOOOOO good. Paul and Kiefer both had burgers and they were MASSIVE.

After lunch, we went shoe shopping because Paul’s sandals are officially falling apart. As luck would have it, the plaza we ate at had a Payless Shoes! We did pop into another shoe store first, but WOW — expensive. So back to Payless we went. Paul and Kiefer each got a pair of sandals and shoes. I behaved. No need to weigh our bags down or junk up the house with more stuff.

We got to the hotel and checked in — wow. It’s really nice here. Our view is absolutely stunning, overlooking the ocean. We can see all the boats lined up waiting to go through the Panama Canal. The canal is fed by rainwater, and it’s been a very dry season, so water levels are low, which means fewer boats can pass through at a time.

We had planned to visit the sloth sanctuary on Friday, but it turns out it’s Carnival weekend here in Panama and traffic is going to be nuts. So we rescheduled our excursion for next week. That didn’t stop Kiefer from buying a sloth stuffy in the hotel gift shop though!

From our balcony, we watched a private party that looked like so much fun. There were women dressed like Vegas showgirls in big feather costumes. Kiefer would have DIED to get his picture taken with one.

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, buffet-style. Kiefer filled his plate with ribs. It was okay — not my favourite, but not horrible either.

We watched a few shows and then called it an early night. Paul has another early morning of meetings, and Kiefer and I are planning to hit the breakfast buffet — which is included with our free night stay! 🙌
