Day 13 - February 12
This morning we woke up relatively early to make the breakfast buffet again. It has an omelette station, bacon, sausage, and tons of fruit — enough to satisfy all of us.
After breakfast, we found Dylan, our Panamanian agent for looking at properties by a certain developer, and met Liz, his counterpart who would be showing us around the complex. The pools, the entertainment, the buildings — all absolutely stunning! The breakfast buffet, however, was just okay. We’ve enjoyed better on other trips. It fed us, we were satisfied, and there was nothing to complain about, but it felt a bit underwhelming when everything else was so over-the-top amazing.
The sales pitch was for a new building that wouldn’t even be done until 2029, which is fine. What did surprise us, though, was the price point. $730,000 USD for a lower-floor unit, up to almost $800,000 USD for a higher-floor unit. I mean, the amenities and the grounds of the current building are gorgeous, but COME ON. We asked if we could see a unit in the existing residential building, and the only one they could show us was Liz’s place. She owns a three-bedroom penthouse unit. She went and got her car — a Range Rover — to take us over.
It was absolutely STUNNING! I’m pretty sure it was larger than our four-bedroom home back in Canada. Penthouse, overlooking the ocean, each bedroom with its own balcony facing the ocean, plus a fourth little “den” area that could EASILY be another bedroom. Just a casual ONE MILLION dollars buys this unit in a 15-year-old building!! Crazy. Me thinks Liz is doing pretty well for herself!
After seeing the unit, we went back to our hotel room and got ready for the pool. Silly me forgot to bring sunscreen! We kept Kiefer in a T-shirt and found a shady spot in the pool to hang out. It was a really nice day just lounging by the pool.
For dinner, we didn’t really want to do the buffet restaurant again, but we waited a bit too long and some of the restaurants were closed. The seafood restaurant didn’t have anything Kiefer would eat, so we ended up in the lobby bar, all having a burger before bed.
This weekend is Carnaval down in Panama, so apparently traffic is going to be nuts! We plan on getting up early, having breakfast, and hitting the road so we don’t get stuck in too much traffic.
Good night!
